In brief

The dependable picture for coaching businesses in India comes from separate datasets, not one market-size claim. ICF measures the global coaching profession, while MoSPI, NSDC and LinkedIn show India’s workforce, skilling and workplace-learning context.

The global profession expects client-led growth

59%

In ICF’s global 2025 study, 59% of coach practitioners expected higher earnings in the following year, driven by more clients and coaching sessions rather than higher fees.

58.4%

NITI Aayog’s 2026 skilling report presents 58.4% of India’s labour force as self-employed, alongside 21.7% regular wage or salary workers and 19.8% casual labourers.

For people aged 15+ in July 2023–June 2024, India’s Worker Population Ratio was 58.2% and its usual-status unemployment rate was 3.2%.

Employment remains the leading training motive in a five-state study

64.1%

Scope matters. ICF’s 2025 study reports global professional-coaching data. MoSPI’s PLFS reports Indian labour-market measures for people aged 15+ using usual status, which includes principal and subsidiary activity. LinkedIn’s India edition combines survey and platform research, while NSDC’s youth study covers selected districts in five states. The figures are presented as separate indicators, not combined into a single market-size estimate.

Keep the measures separate

ICF measures the global professional-coaching profession. MoSPI measures India’s labour-market participation. LinkedIn measures workplace-learning and retention concerns in India. These measurements form context for a coaching business, but they are not additive parts of an India market total.

Three distinct scopesThree side-by-side cards distinguish global coaching data from India workforce and workplace-learning data.

For a practical next step, separate the credential route from the commercial route with life coach certification versus business training. Then use the coaching package price calculator to test whether an offer can support the income it needs to fund.

Frequently asked

The sources on this page do not support combining academic coaching, professional coaching, workforce participation and workplace learning into one India coaching-business market value. ICF’s revenue estimate is global professional-coaching data, while the Indian sources measure labour and skilling conditions.
No. ICF’s 2025 Global Coaching Study measures coach practitioners and profession revenue worldwide. It is useful for understanding the scale and service mix of professional coaching, but it should not be presented as an India-only count, revenue figure or fee benchmark.
No. NSDC’s 2023 youth study reports self-reported differences among respondents who had and had not received formal training. The selected five-state sample provides a useful signal about aspirations and perceived outcomes, but it does not establish causation for all Indian workers.
The figures support a narrower planning question: whom will the coach serve, what work transition or business problem will the offer address, and what evidence will demonstrate value? Workforce and learning data can frame that choice, but they cannot substitute for client interviews, positioning and delivery proof.
